Mini Mixed Media Canvas Tutorial

I thought I'd do a tutorial this morning for a mini mixed media canvas .. I hope you'll play along :o)

I used a cheap canvas board for this project, but any canvas or even mount board would do.
I used colourwash and glimmer mists (made my own in my mini misters with perfect pearls)and covered the canvas.

Then I tore a page or two out of an old french novel.

Using Claudine Hellmuths Studio line paints & a babywipe I cover the page. (I used the light blue first)

Then I begin to add more colours (as many as you like until your happy with it)

Next I prepare my collage elements, these are all from Artchix Studio .. well worth a look !

Then I use Claudine hellmuths Multi Medium Matte to adhere the pages to the canvas :

Next using a stencil (Crafters workshop 6x6 template) with Pine needles distress ink I just do small amounts on the paper & canvas.

Using Black Archival ink I stamped an image (stamper anonymous Timholtz stamp)on to the paper.

then I started to assemble the collage using ideaology metal accents on the watch.

As a finishing touch I have added Glossy accents to the number 5 to add more dimension.

& that's all there is to it ... You can use a smaller version of this idea for ATC's or cards .. anything really .. just have fun x

Grunge Bag

I spoke to a lovely lady called Karen the other night, she called me about an article I'd done for the Craft Stamper Magazine (Oct 2009)when I'd made a Grunge Paper Handbag (see the sneak preview picture below)

Anyhow she had actually made one and this is how it turned out .. pretty fab don't you think ? & she'd even added some of her own embellishments to it, I think it's fab & I'm so pleased that people were inspired by it. Thanks for sharing your pictures with us Karen :)
Here in all it's multi coloured glory is Karens Grunge bag :

Here are some pictures of my canvas along the way

This one is after the inks, beeswax, & Paints.

This one has some stamped images on it (using just archival ink)

Beginning to add paper collaging now..

And a bit more ....

This is after I've added the Key with wings ... & here's a close up of it :

I haven't done any doodling on it yet .. haven't decided whether it needs it or not yet .. going to walk away from it for a bit & decide later ...
I have also done a bit more to my journal I started the other day :

SOrry it's such a big post, seems to be all or nothing this blogger business lol :D x

Monday, 22 February 2010

I spent the day at the NEC yesterday at the Trade show Stitches. We had a great day, saw Tim (who made me a tag),met Claudine Hellmuth and also Rachel Greig (Darkroom door.
I was just ready for some inspiration & they all helped provide some .. So this morning I have been playing & made a couple of tags so far :

This last week I have started a second Art journal, This one is simply an A-Z of me & I'm really enjoying it, So far I've done up to the Letter E.
Sometimes I write about the things that are important to me that begin with that letter, or sometimes it's more of a list ... I don't set out with any plan or design, just see what appears :)

Thanks for looking x

Monday, 1 February 2010

I'm back again, It seems ages since I last updated but again all I seem to have been doing is making stuff I can't show you because it's for magazines ...I'm in Craft Stamper again this month with a new 'treasure box' project involving distress inks, Metal art & shrink plastic. I've done a Layout for another Scrapbook magazine & an item for a 'Handmade' magazine (these are both relatively new magazines in the UK) I've also done another project for Craft stamper so all in all a busy month, plus we've had 2 more workshops :o)
Then of course there was the Chinese dragon head mask I was asked to make for the school for one of their special assembly's
It's nice now that it's all quietened down this week, I've actually had time to make Mum her birthday card (Happy birthday Mum ..Love you xxx)
& I'm hoping that I've actually got some time to play ! (& blog about it !)
We've got new products due to come into the shop anytime so we will be able to add some new workshops to the list ..got some cool ideas so keep an eye out here : http://www.artisttradingpost.com/workshops-69-c.asp
There's a few pics I'm going to upload to share, I am loving the Ranger colour washes at the moment & I made a few tags the other night with them, there is also a picture of the 'dragon' !
